ITINERARY
The most romantic place in India!
Your private tour begins at your Udaipur hotel at 9:30 am.
Udaipur's lovely setting amongst the Aravalli Hills is stunning in it's beauty. Inter-connected lakes surround the palaces and ghats and the clear skies overhead invite relaxation. The pace is slower and less frantic than the bigger cities in India and it's easy to stroll for hours through the bazaars and shops.
We'll start our tour at the massive City Palace overlooking Lake Pichola. Built over 400 years by different Mewar rulers, the palace was started in the 1500's by Maharaja Udai Singh III.
The interconnected halls and rooms blend together architecturally using Rajasthani and Moghul design - each holding never ending displays of lovely artwork, royal furniture and decorative pieces. There are a total of 11 palaces within the City Palace and each one has a different theme.
The restored Peacock Courtyard is eye-opening for it's incredibly detailed stone and glass work, all wonderfully restored to it's original splendour.
At the top of the complex is the tranquil Garden Palace. It was constructed on a natural rock formation over 89 feet above the rest of the building and has lovely fountains, pools and gardens.
The two largest palaces are now hotels.
Fateprakash Palace, which holds the fabulous Crystal Gallery (there is even a solid crystal set of furniture) is a great spot to stop for our tea break. Afterwards we can browse the museum which has more artifacts and treasures from the royal families.
After lunch we'll have a boat tour of Lake Pichola passing by the ghats and the fabulous Lake Palace Hotel before stopping on Jag Mandir Island and The Lake Garden Palace. Formerly a summer and pleasure palace for the royal family, it now houses an exclusive hotel and spa.
We can enjoy the beautiful setting in the middle of the lake and stroll around the grounds admiring the the architecture. The eight carved stone elephants gracing the entrance are particularly elegant and face the Lake Palace opposite.
Our last stop is the Monsoon Palace, also known as the Sajjan Garh Palace. The
hilltop palatial residence has a panoramic view of the city's lakes, palaces and surrounding countryside. It was built originally to watch for the monsoon clouds hence, the name.
The Monsoon Palace is also beautiful at sunset. High in the Aravalli Hills, the Palace is illuminated in the evenings, with a golden, orange glow.
